Equipment we service

Smith and Nephew Scope and Video Equipment We Service

The optics, camera components, and powered hardware that share a tower in most arthroscopy rooms.

Dyonics arthroscopes in 30 and 70 degree views

The workhorse knee and shoulder optics. Shaft bowing from levering against a portal and rod lens damage from tray handling account for most of what arrives here.

Small joint arthroscopes

Narrow diameter optics for wrist, ankle, elbow, and subacromial work. Tolerances are tight enough that a slight bow ruins the image before anyone calls the scope bent.

Arthroscopic camera heads

Seal failure and moisture ingress after sterilization, color drift, and dead pixels. Heads are tested attached to a scope, because that is the only setup that reproduces the room complaint.

Endocouplers and focus rings

Couplers that slip out of focus mid case, fog internally, or no longer clamp the eyepiece square. A loose coupler reads on the monitor as a soft telescope.

Shaver handpieces and drives

Bearing wear, seal failure, and torque loss on arthroscopic shaver hardware, plus the hand controls and cable assemblies that fail alongside them.

Fiber optic light cables

Bundle replacement and end face repolishing. Cables coiled tight on a cart lose fibers steadily, and a brighter source only masks it while burning the end faces.

What Independent Dyonics Scope Service Actually Covers

Arthroscopy is unusually hard on optics because the surgeon is working through a portal in a joint that resists. Levering happens. It is not carelessness, it is the procedure, and the equipment absorbs it. A device that has been through two hundred knees is a different object than the one that came out of the box.

We evaluate the shaft, the relay, the objective, and the eyepiece as one assembly, then quote item by item so you can see the repair that returns the device to rotation separately from the work that extends its life. Decline everything and it comes back at no charge.

Specialty Surgical Services is an independent repair provider. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by Smith and Nephew, and we claim no factory parts and no factory training. The manufacturer name is used here only to identify the equipment we work on. The full set is on the manufacturers we service page.

Precision seals, screws, and internal components laid out in a stainless parts tray
Nothing is fitted until the device has been evaluated and the quote approved. That is why the tray is laid out before the repair starts rather than during it.

Rigid Scope Rebuilds on 30 and 70 Degree Arthroscopes

Straightening a bowed shaft is the visible part of the job and the smaller part of it. The optical stack inside has to be realigned and then verified against a resolution target, otherwise the device leaves looking straight and comes back in eight weeks with the same soft edge.

That work runs through our arthroscope repair service, part of the broader rigid telescope program, with optical inspection through the relay, seal integrity testing, and straightness measurement on every arrival.

Distal damage is the other frequent finding. A chipped or starred objective scatters light and produces the glare surgeons describe as a bad camera. Our cracked distal lens page covers how that is assessed and what the repair involves.

Arthroscopic Camera Heads, Couplers, and Cable Faults

The complaint that arrives most often is not a fault at all. It is a chain: an optic that has softened slightly, a coupler that has drifted, and a light cable down a third of its fibers. Individually each is tolerable. Together they produce a picture the room blames on whichever component gets pulled first.

We test the chain assembled. Camera head and coupler repair and fiber optic light cable rebuilds are done alongside the optics rather than by a second vendor after a second purchase order.

Repaired endoscope in a foam lined transport case beside inspection paperwork
The device goes back with documentation of what failed and what was done, which is what a biomed or clinical engineering team needs for the asset record and the survey binder.

Shaver Handpiece Service Beside the Optics

Powered hardware usually lives on a different vendor contract than the scopes, which is exactly why it tends to run degraded longest. A shaver drive losing torque gets worked around for months before anyone raises a ticket. See surgical power equipment repair for what a rebuild covers.

Ortho rooms also mix manufacturers freely, and the tray that comes to us often contains three names. If the camera platform in your room came from elsewhere, our Stryker arthroscopy and camera service handles that side under the same account.

How it works

How Arthroscope Repair Works, From Pickup to Return

Four steps. The evaluation costs nothing, the quote is written, and the decision to proceed is yours alone.

1

Tell us what failed

Send the manufacturer, model, and what you are seeing. A photo of the damage helps but is not required.

2

We collect the scope

Courier pickup across Southern California, or a prepaid shipping label in your inbox the same business day.

3

You get a written quote

We evaluate the device, document the failure, and price the repair. Nothing proceeds until you approve it.

4

Repaired, tested, returned

The device is repaired, leak and function tested, and returned with documentation for your records.

Questions we get

Smith and Nephew Scope Questions From Ortho and SPD

Are you an authorized Smith and Nephew service center?
No. We are an independent repair company with no affiliation to Smith and Nephew, no authorization from Smith and Nephew, and no endorsement from Smith and Nephew. We do not use factory parts or factory documentation. The name appears here only to identify the equipment we service.
Does a third party repair void the manufacturer warranty?
It can, depending on the device and the service agreement your facility signed, so check any recent purchase before sending it out. Most arthroscopy equipment that reaches an independent bench is well past coverage. If a device still looks covered, we will flag it rather than work on it.
Our arthroscope image is soft at the edges. Is that repairable?
Usually yes. A soft edge is the early signature of a bowed shaft that has pulled the lens stack out of line, and it is a repair rather than a write-off provided the rod lenses have not shattered. The free evaluation tells you which of those you have.
Can the camera head and shaver go in the same shipment as the scope?
Yes, and we prefer it. One evaluation, one written quote, one approval, one return trip. It also lets us test the components together instead of guessing which one produced the complaint.
Do you collect equipment, or do we ship it?
Both work. Across Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties we collect from your facility and return the same way. Anywhere else in the country we email a prepaid label so nothing lands on your freight account.
